Consular Section Working Hours:
The Embassy of Portugal in Algiers has a Consular Section, whose opening hours are as follows:
From Monday to Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (for the purpose of collecting passports you can go to these Services between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays).
Before traveling abroad it is advisable for Portuguese citizens to register at the Consular Emergency Office, which operates 24 hours a day. You can do it through the email: firstname.lastname@example.org

This Consular Section mainly takes care of the following matters, being the main target the Portuguese nationals:
- Consular registration (we point out that the consular registration, free of charge, is indispensable to request any intervention of these services. Given the security conditions in this country, we appreciate that you can inform this Consular Section about any trip, even of short duration, with the indication of the contact and place of accomodation. In case of a definitive return to Portugal, this circumstance must also be transmitted.)
- Identification document (Identity Card; it is expected that, in a short time, you will also be able to request the Citizen Card)
- Travel document (it should be noted that the constraints connected with the functioning of the postal services in this country imply a long delay in obtaining the Passport, a fact for which we ask for you better understanding)
- Legalization of documents
- Civil Registry.
This Consular Section also grants Schengen visas and visas. With regard to Schengen visas, their processing is still carried out internally, and the outsourcing of the service to any external service provider or other entity is not yet verified.
The visa application and the interview marking must be directly carried out online by the applicant at: http://www.secomunidades.pt/vistos/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=171&Itemid=14&lang=en. After the interview, which can be changed online in the same connection, it is not necessary to send an email for confirmation.
The type of visa that you apply for, as well as the documents required for the application, depend on the purpose of the trip.
The examination of the visa application process must comply with the requirements laid down in terms of the documentation to be submitted, and any procedure which is not complete will not be accepted. This Consular Section shall has the sole responsibility of examining Schengen visa procedures which have Portugal as the main destination of the visit, as regards the duration or purpose of the visit.
In the absence of sworn translators of Portuguese in this country, if translation of documents issued by the Algerian authorities is to be sought, it is advisable to use the French-language translation, and the authenticity of the document must be acknowledged at the Office of the Civil Registry of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria.
